How to add custom domain to a blogger blog

If you've created a blog on Blogger, you may want to consider using a custom domain to give your blog a more professional look and make it easier for readers to find. In this step-by-step guide, we'll show you how to add a custom domain to your Blogger blog.

Step 1: Choose a Domain Name:
The first step in adding a custom domain to your Blogger blog is to choose a domain name. Your domain name is the web address that readers will use to find your blog. Make sure to choose a domain name that is easy to remember, relevant to your blog's content, and reflects your brand. You can register a domain name through a domain registrar such as Namecheap or GoDaddy.

Step 2: Purchase the Domain:
After you've chosen a domain name, you'll need to purchase it. Domain names can range in price, but generally, you can expect to pay around $10-$15 per year. Make sure to choose a reputable domain registrar and carefully review the pricing and features of the domain registration plan you select.

Step 3: Set up DNS Records:
Once you've purchased your domain, you'll need to set up DNS records to point your domain to your Blogger blog. This is done through your domain registrar's website, and the exact process will depend on your registrar. In general, you'll need to log in to your account, find the DNS settings for your domain, and add a CNAME record and/or an A record.

To add the CNAME record, enter the following information:

  • Host: www
  • Points to: ghs.google.com
  • TTL: 3600

To add the A record, enter the following information:

  • Host: @
  • Points to: 216.239.32.21
  • TTL: 3600

You'll also need to add three additional A records with the following IP addresses:

  • 216.239.34.21
  • 216.239.36.21
  • 216.239.38.21

Step 4: Configure Your Blogger Settings:
After you've set up your DNS records, you'll need to configure your Blogger settings to use your custom domain. To do this, log in to your Blogger account and go to the Settings > Basic page. In the "Publishing" section, click the "Set up a third-party URL for your blog" link.

Enter your custom domain name in the "Blog Address" field, including the "www" prefix. Click the "Save" button.

You'll see an error message indicating that the domain is not set up correctly. Don't worry, this is expected at this point. You'll need to wait for your DNS changes to propagate, which can take up to 24 hours.

Step 5: Verify Your Domain:
Once your DNS changes have propagated, you'll need to verify your domain. Go back to the "Settings > Basic" page in Blogger and click the "Edit" link next to your custom domain. Check the box next to "Redirect [your domain] to www.[your domain]" if you want to redirect all traffic to the "www" version of your domain.

Click the "Save" button, and you'll see instructions for verifying your domain. You'll need to create a new CNAME record with the following details:

  • Host: [your domain name]
  • Points to: ghs.google.com
  • TTL: 3600

Once you've added this record, wait for your changes to propagate, then click the "Save" button in Blogger to complete the verification process.

Congratulations, you've successfully added a custom domain to your Blogger blog! Your readers can now find your blog using your new domain name. Remember to update any links to your
